Nov. 4: Office Of Emergency Management Open House

The Fort Bend County Office of Emergency Management is hosting an open house between 1-5 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 4, when anyone who’s interested may come and view a former collection of “tables, chairs and loose-leaf paper” that county officials now tout as a state-of-the-art operations center, at 307 Fort St. in Richmond.

County Judge Robert Hebert said he’s worked over the past two years to reorganize the county Office of Emergency Management to better serve the citizens of Fort Bend County as hub of all emergency communications for response and recovery operations.

Under the direction of Emergency Management Coordinator Jeff Braun, and with funding from the federal Department of Homeland Security, Hebert said the OEM has been transformed from idea into reality.

“After our experience with hurricanes Katrina and Rita, I am so glad that I was able to contribute to this project,” Hebert said. “Our ideas went to great use. This facility is used year-round in preparation for natural and/or man-made disasters and has been highly functional during hurricane season.”
