The Texas Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers, the state’s largest membership organization for social workers, selected Fort Bend County Clerk Dianne Wilson as its Houston Area Branch Public Elected Official of the Year.
This award recognizes outstanding service and contributions of an elected official who has shown leadership in the formulation of public policy, particularly policies that affect social justice, health care, education, civil and human rights and social practice.
To qualify for the award, a recipient must be an elected official serving, at the time of the nomination, in public office at the local, state or national lever; ,make a significant contribution to public service while in office; demonstrate leadership in advancing public policy in the area of vulnerable populations, civil and human rights, or social welfare; and demonstrate leadership on behalf of the protection and advancement of social work practice and exemplify social work values and ethics.
Wilson was nominated for her work as chairman of the Texana Mental Health and Mental Retardation Center, and will receive the award in March at the NASW annual breakfast banquet at the University of Houston.
“I was certainly honored to be nominated and am completely taken by surprise that I was selected as the recipient,” Wilson said. “This honor will encourage me to accomplish more as a leader in bringing awareness, understanding and advancement of the social needs of others.”
