The Fort Bend County Toll Road Authority will conduct a feasibility study of building a toll bridge that would start from the downtown Richmond intersection of FM 762 and U.S. 90A, and continue north to McCrary Road.
The bridge would take traffic over railroad tracks in Richmond, span the Brazos River, and stretch to F.M. 359 via McCrary Road.
Fort Bend County Commissioners Court agreed to pay $65,000 for the study. Precinct 1 Commissioner Tom Stavinoha said the county had received a “very rough” estimate of $18 million to $20 million for the 3.4-mile project, but wants more accurate numbers.
Stavinoha said if the project is found feasible and is built, it would provide relief to commuters who now pack FM 359 each morning.
The new route could provide a straight shot via FM 762 for residents of semi-rural neighborhoods north of Richmond to U.S. 59, south of Richmond.
