Totalitarianism is a form of authoritarian government in which rulers recognize no limits to their authority and try to regulate virtually any aspect of social life. The term ‘totalitarian’ derives from the “totality” of the rulers’ ambitions: they tolerate no opposition in any sphere of life and aim for complete control of the society and its future.
