Houston CPAs Sponsor Student Art & Essay Contest

The Houston CPA Society is sponsoring its 20th annual art and essay contest, with the theme “Unique Heroes of Texas – Past or Present.”

Middle school students from throughout the region are invited to compete in the contest. Entries must be received by the Houston CPA Society no later than 5 p.m., Nov. 3, and should be submitted by the students’ teacher.

Entries for the essay contest should be no less than 300 words and
no more than 1,000 words in length. Essays must be typed in double-spaced form. Essays may be submitted via email as a Microsoft Word attachment.

Each essay must be accompanied by a completed entry form, or include a cover page containing the same information as appears on the entry form (the cover page should be the last page of the essay).

Judging will be based on idea development and statement of the central idea, essay organization and development, as well as the grammar, mechanics and overall appearance of the essay.

Art contestants will be judged on their development of the idea and
presentation. Each art entry must be presented on 8-1/2-inch by 11-inch paper, which may be “art quality paper.” The artist may use any art element available to students in Grades 6-8 and be submitted with a completed entry form attached to its back.

Contest winners will be treated to a recognition luncheon. Essay
contest winners will receive a plaque, and art contest winners will have their artwork framed. All entrants will receive a certificate of
participation.

“Each school may enter up to six entries, per class, in each contest,” said Don Jones, CPA, Bellaire, chair of the CPAs Helping Schools Committee.
