A man disguised as a trash can attracted the attention of Richmond police Saturday night and wound up in jail on drug charges.
The incident began at 10:12 p.m. Saturday, when police received a call that someone was walking along Preston Street with a trash can on his head, said Richmond Police Sgt. Lowell Neinast.
Upon investigating, Richmond Police Officer Brian Meyer “observed the trash can with legs in the backyard area” of a residence in the 1600 block of Preston, according to police reports.
When Officer Meyer asked the person wearing the trash can to “come out and talk to him,” police reports said, “the individual wearing the 35-gallon plastic trash can dropped down, covering himself completely with the trash can.”
While the police officer continued speaking to him, the man “kept peeking out from the bottom of the trash can.”
Suddenly, the man tried to run out of the back yard, but police said he had trouble getting through a gate, because he couldn’t completely remove the trash can. Then, “the subject jumped several fences while trying to avoid questioning from the police,” reports said.
He was finally caught in the 200 block of Rochelle Street. Identified as Christopher Lee Gracia, 18, of Richmond, the man was arrested for evading police. Then police searched Gracia and found a small amount of cocaine, resulting in a charge against him of possession of a controlled substance in a drug-free zone.
Gracia was transported to the Fort Bend County Jail in Richmond.
