Candidates Say They’d Refuse County Pay Raise

Dear Editor:

County Judge Bob Hebert recently said that elected officials in Fort Bend County should get a 17% pay raise “to have a salary high enough to encourage good people to run for office.”

We believe that good elected officials are ones that are truly public servants and do not run for office because they want a high salary. Therefore, when we are elected as your next District Clerk and Justice of the Peace, we will refuse the pay raise, and instead ask the Commissioners Court to give a pay raise to those who really need it; the employees of the District Clerk’s and Justice of the Peace Precinct 3 offices.

By giving adequate pay to the people who do the real work of the county, our offices will run more efficiently and better serve the people of Fort Bend County.
