High School Football: Eagles Fly, Knights Make Right, Mustangs Romp

The Willowridge Eagles and Elkins Knights didn’t let double non-district losses mar their games Saturday, as both teams posted their first victories, against district rivals.

The 4A Lamar Mustangs, meanwhile, applied muscle to 5A Katy Mayde Creek, winning their third game in a row, 42-7. The Seven Lakes Spartans lost big to Galena Park, 50-16, while the Bay City Blackcats dropped one to West Orange Stark, 20-12.

In 5A District 23, a.k.a. the Fort Bend ISD district, Willowridge scored three 4th-quarter touchdowns – the last a 36-yard interception return by Clinton Barnes – to add to a pair of Miguel Rios field goals in a 27-0 blanking of the Kempner Cougars.

Elkins quarterback Alex Fick passed for 265 yards and two touchdowns and Brian Harclerode added a pair of field goals to lead the Knights to a close victory over the Bush Broncos, 25-22.
