Fort Bend Lawyers Care Receives Texas Bar Foundation Grant

The Texas Bar Foundation has awarded a $25,000 grant to Fort Bend Lawyers Care, a local pro bono organization serving low-income residents of Fort Bend County.

The Sugar Land-based non-profit organization was created by the Fort Bend County Bar Association to provide pro bono legal services to low-income residents of the county through the recruitment of volunteer attorneys.

According to FBLC Executive Director John Millard, “Fort Bend
County has a population of nearly 500,000 citizens with 10% or more living below the poverty level. This generous grant by the Texas Bar Foundation will enable FBLC to fulfill its mission of serving our less fortunate citizens with their legal needs.”

Fort Bend Lawyers Care sponsors a variety of community outreach programs including an annual Will-A-Thon for low-income seniors, a Volunteer Lawyer Program, and a free monthly LegalLine. “Our LegalLine has been a great success. Many times, callers just
need quick answers to legal questions or simple legal advice that can be given over the telephone in a few moments”, Millard said.

LegalLine is held on the first Wednesday of each month, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Callers can reach LegalLine at 281-325-1015.
