Boot Burglar Busted After High-speed Chase Through Richmond

Richmond police rounded up an apparent boot rustler early this morning, just a half-hour after Rosenberg police were called to investigate a break-in at Gabby’s Western Wear Fashions.

Angel Vasquez, 26, of Richmond, was arrested by Richmond police officers after a high-speed chase at about 12:48 a.m., and charged with evading arrest in a motor vehicle.

According to police reports, when officers were able to stop the black Mazda Vasquez was driving, they found the car was filled with numerous pairs of cowboy boots, with price tags attached to them.

Aware of the burglary at Gabby’s, Richmond police turned Vasquez over to the Rosenberg Police Department.

The incident began just after midnight, when Rosenberg Police Officer Richard Hooper was called to Gabby’s, at 3926 Ave. H, to investigate a burglary.

The store owner told Hooper she’d been notified by her security company that an alarm had gone off in the store, according to police reports. Hooper saw that a window had been broken, apparently to gain entry. Two display racks, which the store owner said had been stocked with 32 pairs of cowboy boots, were standing empty.

A few minutes later, Richmond Police Officer Brian Meyer saw a black Mazda speeding along F.M. 762 near the YMCA in Richmond. According to police reports, Meyer attempted to pull the vehicle over, but lost sight of it as it turned onto Pecan Avenue.

Richmond Police Officer Steven Rychlik caught sight of the car speeding north on Winston Drive, but he was unable to stop it and saw it turn east on Jackson. Officers spotted the car again and finally were able to stop it in the 2600 block of U.S. 90A, east of town.

After discovering the cowboy booty in the car Vasquez had been driving, police showed the boots to the owner of Gabby’s, who identified them as the ones that had been stolen from her store.

Rosenberg police then charged Vasquez with burglary, and transported him to Fort Bend County Jail in Richmond.
