Congressman-Elect Nick Lampson was discharged at about 11 a.m. from Christus St. John Hospital in Nassau Bay after undergoing treatment for a blocked coronary artery.

“I am feeling great and am looking forward to a restful Christmas with my family,” Lampson said in a statement. “I could not have received better care and am deeply grateful to the staff at St. John’s for their excellent work. I would also like to thank everyone for keeping me in their thoughts and prayers.”

Lampson, D-Stafford, was admitted to Christus St. John on Thursday evening, after complaining during dinner that he was not feeling well.

Lampson spokeswoman Carrie Chess said early Friday the congressman was feeling fine, under going tests and likely would be released that morning.

However, a coronary angiography test on “confirmed earlier tests showing a blockage in one vessel. A coronary angioplasty was then performed with placement of a stent to open the vessel,” Chess said on Friday evening.

Interventional cardiologist Gayath Samman performed the test and procedure late Friday afternoon, Chess said, adding, “Congressman Lampson was conscious, alert and in good spirits throughout the procedure. He is currently resting in a private room.”

“A full recovery is expected and he will be able to resume his normal schedule following the Christmas holidays,” Chess said.
