Excerpt, Texas Energy Center Proposals to Release State Matching Funds

Oct. 21, 2003

The Texas Energy Center has an opportunity to establish itself as a hub for Energy Intelligence. By housing leading companies that are researching and developing advanced technologies, the TxEC can serve as a magnet to attract research, media and publishing organizations seeking information on the latest trends. The TxEC can also host events and activities that further attract business leaders and media attention to the center, strengthening its role in setting the future direction of the industry. Specifically, the TxEC can support the following core elements to establish itself as the industry’s premier Energy Intelligence hub:

→ House public and private sector organizations that specialize in energy information, market research, publishing, and thought leadership. These organizations could include E & P Magazine, World Energy, Pennwell Petrodata, Platts, etc. Universities with strong energy research departments should also be considered, such as University of Houston, Texas A & M, Stanford, etc., and EIA.

→ Create a media center to attract broadcasters and periodicals to set up energy bureaus in the TxEC to have ready access to industry leaders and events. These organizations could include CNBC, CNNfn, Bloomberg Energy News, Wall Street Journal, Fortune, etc.
