Another round of lane closures and detours is set to start Friday on U.S. 59 north at the Brazos River crossing, as night-time traffic will be diverted onto a frontage road bridge.
Beginning Friday and continuing through Monday, northbound main-lane traffic will be shifted from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., to cross the river on the new northbound frontage road bridge.
Also, beginning Jan. 29 and lasting for about a week, motorists entering U.S. 59 north from the current Greatwood entrance ramp will need to change lanes quickly to stay on the freeway. Otherwise, according to the City of Sugar Land, they’ll be forced to exit at the Brazos River turnaround.
Beginning on the 29th, the northbound entrance ramp a Greatwood “will be moved closer to the river,” the city said in a statement. “This new ramp will join the freeway, picking up a third lane over the river. This ramp relocation will require the closure of the current U.S. 59 northbound exit to the Brazos River turnaround.”
Motorists who now use the turnaround exit will have to exit south of the Grand Parkway. They then can drive on the new frontage road to the Brazos River turnaround, the city said in a statement.
