This morning’s freezing weather is just a precursor for even colder temperatures tonight, which the National Weather Service says could be the coldest night this winter.
Temperatures in Fort Bend County are expected to drop into the 20s Thursday night, with a predicted low of 25 degrees, the weather service says.
The culprit is a high pressure center sitting above the southern plains, which the weather service says will “bring cold Canadian air southward today and settle across central Texas tonight.”
Winds are expected to diminish and skies are expected to clear. As a result, “temperatures tonight will likely be th ecoldest for the year so far if not for the winter, and will be near record lows for north and central Texas.
Area residents should make plans to cover sensitive plants and bring pets inside out of the extreme cold. Also, residents using space heaters should make sure not to overload electrical circuits.
Finally, residents should consider wrapping water pipes with insulated tape or allowing faucets to drip overnight to prevent pipes from freezing.
