A rash of residential robberies continued Wednesday in Sugar Land, when a 36-year-old woman was robbed in her garage by a man the woman believes followed her home after grocery shopping.
According to Sugar Land police, circumstances of the robbery were similar to a number of crimes that have occurred over the past month both in Sugar Land and other areas of the county.
The Thursday robbery occurred before 4 p.m. in the 13000 block of Normandy Court in Glen Laurel, according to the police report. The victim told police a thin black man about 6 feet, 6 inches tall, wearing a black hat, white shirt, blue shorts and brown sneakers walked into her garage, opened the passenger door to her car and grabbed her purse.
“She struggled to keep her purse, but let go when the suspect displayed a gun,” police said in the report. “The assailant left in a car described as a white American-made four-door compact with no visible license plates.”
The woman, who was not injured, told police she thinks she was followed home from a Vietnamese grocery store at Synott and Bellaire in Houston.
Details of the robbery were similar to other recent incidents police cited:
→ On May 1, at 1:40 p.m., two suspects described as light-skinned black women in their late teens robbed a man on East Wisteria Place in the Hickory Park Subdivision in front of his home. The suspects were driving a small white car.
→ On May 1, at 9 p.m., a citizen was robbed on Hodge Lake in the Sugarwood Subdivision. He was at the neighborhood mailboxes when a tall black man approached and stole his BMW. “SLPD found the suspect driving the car, and a vehicle chase ensued,” according to a police report. “The chase was terminated in Houston due to safety concerns, and the suspect got away.”
→ On May 2, at 7:50 p.m., a young Hispanic woman and two men robbed a resident in front of his home at Fox Briar in the Sugar Creek Subdivision. The suspects were in a small white car.
→ On May 7, at 10:45 p.m., a black man in his 20’s robbed several people on St. Christopher Court in the Waters of Avalon subdivision.
→ On May 8, at 9:15 p.m., a woman on Country Club in the Sugar Creek Subdivision was robbed in her car at her home. The suspect was described as a black man driving a white sedan.
The Sugar Land Police Department said it “is aggressively investigating these cases, looking for commonalities and following leads. Some victims state they were coming home from different grocery stores; however, the suspects may have been driving in neighborhoods, commercial areas and thoroughfares looking for
victims. It does not appear all six cases involve the same suspects, but a few of the suspects may be responsible for more than one.”
Anyone with information on the above investigations is urged to contact the department’s Criminal Investigations Division at 281-275-2540.
