The owners of Katy maid service company have been arrested after allegedly using personal information from their customers to fraudulently obtain credit cards.
The Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Department said Harrison Johnson III, 42, and Joyce Marie Butler, 40, both of the Katy area, were arrested in late May after a six-month investigation, and both charged with fraudulent use of identification. Johnson also was found to have an outstanding warrant on a charge of credit card abuse.
The two, who since were released from the Fort Bend County Jail after posting bond, were identified by the sheriff’s department as the owners of Afford-A-Maid.
According to a sheriff’s report, detectives began an investigation in early December after a woman complained to the department that her bank and credit card company alerted her. The institutions asked her for confirmation about a “several thousand dollar transfer from one account to the other.”
The woman told detectives she “learned that multiple accounts with her identifying information were opened without her consent or knowledge,” the sheriff’s report said.
Investigators discovered that Butler and Johnson “fraudulently obtained credit cards utilizing the personal information of other clients whom they cleaned for as well,” the sheriff’s report said.
Detectives believe more of the maid service company’s customers may have been victimized, and have asked that anyone with information about the case contact the department’s Criminal Investigation Division at 281-341-4685, Investigator Costello at 281-341-4651, or Fort Bend County Crime Stoppers at 281-342-8477.
