Dean Hrbacek Announces Candidacy For 22nd Congressional District

Republican Dean Hrbacek formally announced today that he is a candidate for Congress in District 22. Hrbacek, a long-time Republican activist, said he is running for Congress to return conservative values to the district.

“I’m no Washington bureaucrat, just a down-home person who shares the conservative values of this district. I’m a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association, active in the Fort Bend Republican Club, the Sugar Land Rotary Club, the Fort Bend Chamber, the Rosenberg Richmond Area Chamber and Fort Bend Cares because I care about our community,” Hrbacek said in a candidate’s statement.

Dean was previously elected as a council member and then mayor of Sugar Land. During his time in office, Sugar Land’s property taxes dropped by 33%. Dean also served as a Republican precinct chair, senatorial district delegate and officer, state party delegate and has been a committed conservative activist for over 25 years.

As mayor, Hrbacek provided the leadership for Sugar Land Town Square, the expansion of Highway 59 through Sugar Land and the University of Houston at Sugar Land campus.

The contrast between Nick Lampson, a former tax assessor collector from Beaumont, and Dean Hrbacek, a tax cutting mayor, is stark. “As a committed conservative with a record of reducing taxes, the voters’ choice for district 22 is clear – a tax cutter vs. a tax collector,” Hrbacek said.

Dean is the only candidate with ties throughout the district. He has lived in district 22 for more than 25 years. He was born in Houston, grew up in Houston and Pearland and graduated from Pearland High School. He attended San Jacinto College in Pasadena and graduated from the University of Houston at Clear Lake with his degree in accounting. He graduated from the University of Houston Law School and is a tax and business attorney.

Dean has lived and worked in Sugar Land for the last 20 years. He and his wife of 26 years, Jenny, have three beautiful children.
