The parents of an 11-year-old boy who police thought was the victim of an attempted abduction in Pecan Grove say the incident was a misunderstanding.
On Jan. 17 the child was running to catch his school bus when a man pulled up beside him and offered him a ride. The boy refused, and when the man offered to drive him to the next bus stop, the boy ran home. A release was issued by the Sheriff’s Office asking for the public’s help in identifying the man.
He was described as a male with dark curly hair, a mustache, a dark complexion who spoke with an accent, driving a two-door silver passanger car with a black convertible top.
The boy’s parents have now told detectives that the man offering their son a ride is a guest of their neighbors. The man is visiting from South Africa, and the 11-year-old did not recognize him.
Police followed up, and confirmed that it was not an attempted abduction.
