Katy school trustees will meet tonight to consider the hiring of a new Chief Operations Officer for the district, as well as auxiliary staffing for new campuses opening in the fall and campus staffing plans for the 2008-`09 school years.
Trustees will convene in closed executive session at 5:30 p.m. to discuss personnel issues, including the possibility of hiring a replacement for current Chief Operations Officer John Bailey, who will retire at the end of the school year after a 30-year career in education. If board members agree on a replacement, action to hire that person will come in the public session of the meeting that begins at 6:30 p.m.
Bailey began his career in education as an English teacher and coach at Spring Woods High School in Spring Branch ISD after receiving his bachelor’s degree in Arts from Houston Baptist University. Soon after, he earned his master’s degree in Education Administration from the University of Houston and went on to hold various campus administrative positions in Magnolia ISD and Tomball ISD.
Bailey has held several central administration positions including Assistant Superintendent for Administration for Grapevine-Colleyville ISD and Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum & Instruction at Carroll ISD. Immediately prior to joining Katy ISD as Deputy Superintendent for Administrative Services in 2005, he served as Superintendent of Glen Rose ISD.
In other action, trustees are expected to consider the administration’s recommendation for auxiliary staffing for new school campuses opening this fall, as well as the staffing plan for all campuses for the upcoming school year. The board will also take up a proposal for guaranteed maximum prices for additional renovations to Sundown, Mayde Creek and Dianne Winborn elementary schools this summer.
The meeting will be held in the board room of the KISD Education Support Complex next to the Merrell Center.
