Convicted Thursday of murdering his estranged wife, Kelly Dozier has been sentenced to 60 years in prison.
Dozier, of Sugar Land, was convicted of murder by a Fort Bend County jury in 434th District Judge James Shoemake’s court.
Under Texas law, 39-year-old Dozier must serve at least 30 years of the sentence before becoming eligible for parole.
Kelly Dozier was accused of walking up to his estranged wife, Donna Dozier, 33, outside her Stafford office building on Oct. 10, 2006, and murdering her.
Evidence presented at Kelly Dozier’s trail indicated Dozier rented a car that day, drove to his wife’s workplace, began an argument with her and then shot her in the back of the head with a .357 magnum revolver.
While married, the two were estranged and had been living apart.
A few hours after the murder, Sugar Land police contacted their Stafford counterparts and said they’d received a call from Kelly Dozier, who was at Donna Dozier’s house at Dogwood Street in Sugar Land. He said during the call that he had information about the shooting.
Stafford detectives arrived at the home and arrested him.
A member of Donna Dozier’s family said the family “is very thankful for this jury” and the action they took in the case.
Fort Bend County District Attorney Chad Bridges prosecuted the case.
