Fifty-Nine FBISD 2009 National Merit Semifinalists Named

The Fort Bend Independent School District has announced the names of 59 district students who have been named semifinalists in the 2009 National Merit Scholarship Program.

The 59 semifinalists are among more than 1.5 million high school juniors in more than 21,000 United States high schools who entered the 2009 Merit Program by taking the PSAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. The nationwide pool of Semifinalists, which represents less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors, includes the highest scoring entrants in each state.

Fort Bend ISD’s 2009 National Merit semifinalists by campus included:
• Austin High School – Prachi Bhawalkar, Amanda Callahan, Nirav Mehta and Nicholas Zhang
• Bush High School – Neil Thakral
• Clements High School – Taahir Ahmed, Andrew Badachhape, Shreya Balhara, Justin Banerdt, Natasha Bhatia, Christopher Chan, Hamsika Chandrasekar, Eileen Chen, Jia Chen, Christopher Clark, Ivan Davydychev, Gaurav Dhar, Anand Divakaruni, Emily Guo, Aashish Jain, Karen Jong, Brady Kirchof, Allen Lee, Princeton Lee, Vincent Liu, Ann Lord, Dennis Mou, Connie Qin, Munis Rashid, Ian Roy, Joshua Tsau, Audrey Wang, Mary Warren, Donna Xiao, Jingru Yan, Patrick Yan, Sue Yeh, Christine Younan, Chenxi Zhang, Haoshuang Zhang, Julianne Zhang and Mark Zhang.

These high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for 8,200 Merit Scholarship awards worth $35 million that will be offered next spring.
