Sugar Land Approves Riverstone Water Line Agreement

The Sugar Land City Council has approved an interlocal agreement with Fort Bend MUD 128 for the construction of water trunk lines in the Riverstone development.

Under terms of the agreement, the city and MUD 128 will share the cost of the water lines. Actual construction will be coordinated by the MUD on behalf of itself and the city.

“This is a pretty simple and straight forward agreement,” Executive Director of Community Development Jim Callaway told the council.

He explained the city will pay for a 16-inch water line running from a new water well and treatment plant in the southwestern portion of Riverstone to the existing city water system near Avondale. The line will connect to existing water lines, as well as provide water to the Riverstone area.

MUD 128 will build a 20-inch water line along the proposed right-of-way of University Boulevard from the western edge of the Riverstone development to connect the eastern sections of Riverstone to the city system, as well as provide sufficient water flow and pressure for additional development.

The city’s cost for the project is estimated at $460,000. The cost for the MUD 128 portion of the project will be $915,000.

Councilman Tom Abraham asked Callaway if the proposed 20-inch line would be adequate. Callaway responded that it would.

Mayor James Thompson pointed out the terms agreement also resolved all concerns the city had previously expressed about work promised by the developer.

“This satisfies all outstanding issues we were concerned with,” Thompson said.

In making the motion to approve the agreement, Councilman Dennis Parmer expressed his appreciation to the developer.

“I appreciate the developer working with us on this,” Parmer said. “It gives us a certainty on the project.”

The agreement was approved on a unanimous vote. It now needs to also be approved by the MUD 128 board before the project can begin.

In a related matter, the council also approved a road construction agreement with Riverstone Development and Fort Bend County LID 15 for construction of University Boulevard through the Riverstone area.

Keep digging more water wells and draining subsurface water. Let the subsidence begin: Then watch Riverstone homes begin to experience cracked slabs, walls, doors out of alignment, sagging windows, etc., etc.

“they paved paradise and put up a parking lot…”
