Fort Bend Independent School District has received more than $4.5 million in grant money that can be used to reward deserving classroom teachers, mentors, principals or other campus employees.
The money - $4,519,368, was identified in an FBISD board meeting agenda item as District Awards for Teacher Excellence Program.
According to district Chief Financial Officer Mike Seale, at least 60% of the money “will be used to reward classroom teachers that positively impact student academic improvement, growth and/or achievement.”
Up to 40% of the money could be used “on teacher stipends, teacher mentors, principal incentives, awards to other campus employees and elements of the Teacher Advancement Program,” Seale said.
The district also recently received $422,206 in Title IV, Part B “21st Century Community Learning Centers” grant money.
That grant award is to be used to “provide opportunities for communities to establish or expand activities in the
community learning centers that provide opportunities for academic enrichment and
additional services to students.”
