Winners Named At Lexington Creek Science Fair & Expo

Fourth- and fifth-grade students at Lexington Creek Elementary began preparing for the school’s annual Science Fair & Expo in November and concluded with the school-wide expo in the cafeteria last Friday.

Each classroom in grades K-5 performed a science investigation and prepared a display of their project.  Results of the fourth- and fifth-grade science fair entries were announced and displayed along with all of the other projects submitted for judging.  

 

Grand prize in fifth grade went to Sarah Gregory for her investigation named “Blast Off!”  First place went to Victor Burgess and Kevin Chang for a project called “Which Paper Geometric Shape is the Strongest?” 

 

In fourth grade, Marina Baez took the grand prize her investigation, “What’s the Bright Idea?” Tied for first place were Grace Hanson and Zionah Browne for “The Fast & Furious Marbles” and Nadia Khalfe and Christine Cong for “Say Cheese.” 

 

Second place winners included Lauren Neal with “Does the Color of Light Affect Plant Growth,” Allison Chang with “Do Different Drinks Make Plants Grow Faster?” and Ethan Carter with ”Soil or Water?”

 

All science investigations followed the scientific method beginning with a question of something the students would like to find out. 

 

The question had to be testable and use materials readily available to the students.
