The Cinco Ranch Property Owners Association Board of Directors is expected to take action on a controversial proposal by Cinco MUD 12 to build a series of eight monument signs marking major entrances to Cinco Ranch.
The CRPA board will hold its regular monthly open session meeting beginning at 6:30 p.m. Instead of meeting in its usual location at the Cinco Ranch offices, the board will instead meet at the Cinco Ranch Lake House to accommodate what is expected to be a larger-than-normal crowd of spectators.
During the meeting, the Cinco MUD 12 board is expected to make a presentation to the CRPA board about the sign project.
The $1.4 million proposal has come under fire since it was first made public last July. Many Cinco Ranch residents have criticized the sign project as a waste of money.
Others have accused the MUD board of attempting to divert public funds to a project that benefits only commercial areas, such as the LaCenterra shopping center, while ignoring the needs of a majority of Cinco Ranch residents.
In early December, the Cinco Ranch Landscape Maintenance Association voted 3-1 to approve the MUD board’s proposal to build new monument signs at several major entrances to Cinco Ranch. The Landscape Maintenance Association controls all major public rights-of-way in Cinco Ranch.
That decision led to accusations of a conflict of interest on the part of two LMA board members, one of whom works for Cinco Ranch developer Newland Company while the other works for Vista, the company that manages LaCenterra.
The LMA approval was in marked contrast to a vote by the Cinco Ranch Neighborhood Representatives Committee several weeks earlier. The NRC voted overwhelmingly to oppose the sign proposal.
An online survey of Cinco Ranch residents found similar opposition. By an almost 5-to-1 margin, those responding to the poll said they did not favor the MUD board’s plan.
