Last week, Fort Bend Independent School District unveiled a number of new website enhancements, as well as a new look on its homepage and a new web address, fortbendisd.com.
Results from a communications survey in June of last year showed that a majority of those taking the survey received current information about Fort Bend ISD from the district and campus websites. Changes to the homepage were made to improve user experience.
In addition to the changes unveiled last week, the district will gradually migrate to a new look and navigation system, including a special “News, Events and Public Information” feature.
Under the banner “Welcome to our World, the new website features the following enhancements:
- New navigation bar with drop down menus to make it easier to find information.
- “What’s for Lunch?” featuring FBISD elementary students reading the school lunch menus.
- A “What’s New?” feature story section to focus attention to the latest news.
- “Quick Links” and graphic tools to help users find the most requested information on the website.
- “Important Dates” section to share dates for meetings and special events in Fort Bend ISD.
- Online surveys posted periodically, such as the current “Take our Communications Survey” and “Science: Tell Us What You Think”
The website currently hosts more than 10,000 document files containing both current and archived information.
Since the beginning of the 2008-`09 school year, website visitors looked at an average of 682,000 pages per month. During September, with the increased usage during Hurricane Ike, the number increased to over one million pages.
Many current home page website features remain in place under the new look, including “Athletics,” “Parent Information,” “School & Bus Route Locator” and the latest news and announcements from the district.
