Some 220 Fort Bend County Sheriff’s deputies, investigators and patrol officers walked into a mandatory meeting called by Sheriff Milton Wright on Thursday afternoon, and each person walked out with a cashier’s check made out for $1,000, written by an anonymous donor with an apparent appreciation of law enforcement.
Wright wouldn’t comment later Thursday, and office spokeswoman Terriann Carlson said “I need to look into that.”
But sources who attended said the cashier’s checks were handed out to all deputies and sheriff’s employees who perform law enforcement duties on the streets, in appreciation for their work.
Chief Sheriff’s Deputy Craig Brady confirmed the 2 p.m. mandatory meeting, but didn’t know who was responsible for the money or why.
“I have no idea other than an anonymous individual or some foundation, I suppose. The sheriff wouldn’t tell me who it was,” Brady said. “It was a nice surprise. The sheriff just told people to come to the Great Hall” at the sheriff’s office.
Others at the meeting indicated the checks were donated out of appreciation for the law enforcement officers’ work.
“I think they were pleased with their envelopes,” Brady said. “We had several people that had tears in their eyes, it meant that much to them.”
Sources said about 220 sheriff’s office employees received the checks, making the anonymous donation worth about $220,000.

Just look at what money, even only $1000 per person. The great men and women of FBCSO have been turned against eachother and the coumminty. This saddens me and it is a dark day for LEO’s everywhere.
First off I would like to THANK the secret donor for his gracious donation. You are the reason why many of us who WORK THE STREETS wake up everyday and leave our family and loved ones to put our lives on the line for the fine folks of Fort Bend County. Tooo many times our good deeds we do get ignored and our Flaws get highly publicized. So once again THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart.
Now to the negative people out there, like lawdawg……….
I can only assume you work at the S.O., if You dont like the way the Sheriff or Chief do things….QUIT. I seriously don’t think you will be missed. And if you don’t work for the S.O. then mind your own business and don’t talk trash about my Sheriff and Chief. Also Chief Brady and and Cap. Pokludas lives outside the work place is no ones business but their’s.
Once again, I have logged onto fortbendnow.com, only to see the men and women of the FBCSO trashed by a few bloggers and bleak left-wing idealist. The simple act of kindness by an anonymous donor has been trashed and morphed into a sinister act of corruption. It is truly sad that people so jealous and envious of the deputies receiving this gift sink so low that they try to pit the enforcement division against the detention division to cause contention within the department. Even further showing defeat and desperation, the personal lives of FBCSO employees are questioned by those who cowardly hide behind a pseudonym on the internet. If you are so resentful of the people receiving these $1,000 gifts, fill out an application and get a job working on the streets, and hopefully next time someone chooses to show their appreciation to local law enforcement, you will also receive benefit. Otherwise, you will have to live with the fact that the front line of defense against gangs, robbers, murderers and rapist are still appreciated by the general public and are owed a pat on the back. Best of luck to the men and women of the FBCSO, I hope your check assists during this tough economic period.
