Fort Bend ISD will host two public hearings on zoning this month, one on Feb. 18 on the attendance zone adjustment for E. A. Jones and Briargate Elementary Schools and one on Feb. 19 for a new attendance zone for Elementary #44.
E.A. Jones and Briargate Elementary Schools
The hearing for E.A. Jones and Briargate attendance zone changes will be on Wednesday, Feb. 18. It will begin at 6 p.m. at the Briargate Elementary cafeteria, 15817 Blue Ridge Rd. in Missouri City.
The public is invited to review the district’s plans to reduce the student population at E.A. Jones Elementary. The district is proposing to rezone the easternmost portion of E.A. Jones to Briargate. The triangular area in question is bordered on the north by the district boundary, on the west by the Fort Bend Toll Road and on the south by a drainage ditch.
Bilingual students in the area would remain at E. A. Jones.
The rezoning would provide a shorter travel distance to school for the seven years the students are in elementary school than currently experienced by those attending E.A. Jones. The drive distance will be reduced from 3-4 miles to one-half to 1 mile.
Oakland Elementary and Elementary #44
The hearing for Oakland Elementary and Elementary #44 attendance zone changes will be on Thursday, Feb. 19. It will begin at 6 p.m. at the Oakland Elementary cafeteria, 4455 Waterside Estates Drive in Richmond.
The community is being invited to review the district’s plans for developing a new attendance zone for Elementary #44, currently under construction in Grand Mission.
The elementary School #44 zone is bordered by the district boundary on the north and the west. The east zone line runs along the western boundary of West Oak Village and Twin Oaks Village extending south to an east-west line running south of Grand Mission, including Bradford Park.
The new attendance zone for Elementary #44 will be comprised of students who currently attend Oakland Elementary.
Plan Review and Public Comment Process
During each public hearing, plans for the zone changes will be shown during the first part of meeting. Afterward, time will be provided to hear receive public comments.
Written comment forms will also be available at the hearings.
After Feb. 19, the zoning plans will be available for viewing on the district website at www.fortbendisd.com.
Spanish translation services will be provided at both hearings.
