The remains of Richmond landmark Lone Star Saloon will be demolished soon, probably by March 1, owner Bill Lindquist said Monday.
The popular Richmond bar and music venue, run for decades in a historic 120-year-old building at 102 and 106 S. Third St., was heavily damaged in a Nov. 19 fire.
Fire fighters from Richmond, Rosenberg, Pecan Grove, Missouri City and Sugar Land fought the blaze early that morning. No one was hurt, but damage to the saloon’s buildings was extensive, and estimated at close to a half-million dollars.
Lindquist, who owns the Lone Star along with his wife, Beverly, said last month he will rebuild the Lone Star as a large one-room nightclub, with a bandstand, dance floor, large modern bar and a kitchen.
On Monday, he said Cherry Demolition likely will tear down what remains of the historic structure, and Richmond’s Shepard Construction will build the new building.
“It’s going to be a metal building, camouflaged not to look like a metal building,” Lindquist said.
The inside area will contain about 4,000 square feet, he said. The new Lone Star also will include an outdoor patio facing east “to keep the sun out of your eyes.”
