Updated: A Stafford police officer shot and killed a 19-year-old man Wednesday after a domestic disturbance at an Aspen Lane home.

The dead man has been identified as Aaron Hobart. Other details of the incident still were sketchy Thursday morning, as an investigation into the shooting continues.

A Stafford Police Department spokesman said the parents of the 19-year-old made a 911 call at about 3:08 p.m. during what apparently was a heated argument with their son.

According to police sources, Patrol Officer Jesus Estrada arrived at their home, in the 12100 block of Aspen Lane in Stafford. Hobart answered the door, and began fighting with Estrada. The officer drew his gun and fired, striking Hobart.

Both the 19-year-old and the police officer were transported to a local hospital. Details were not available about when the young man died. The extent of the Estrada’s injuries also were not clear.

Police Det. Raphael Virata said Estrada, who has been with the department for about two years, was at home on Thursday, and has been reassigned from patrol duty pending an investigation.

Virata said the incident marked the first fatal shooting involving a Stafford police officer.
