Missouri City is reminding its residents to be aware of what they are washing down storm drains – and eventually into their drinking water.
Missouri City, in partnership with 15 Municipal Utility Districts, coordinates a Stormwater Management Program to minimize the pollution that enters the city’s water system through storm drains.
City water officials are offering the following tips to help avoid polluting water systems through runoff:
- Do not over-fertilize. Sweep, do not wash, fertilizer and soil off driveways and walkways.
- Maintain your car to prevent oil leaks so rainwater does not wash oil into storm drains.
- Recycle or properly dispose of yard care products and household chemicals.
- Pick up pet waste.
