Newland Communities has completed its $25 million project to extend University Boulevard from U.S. Highway 59 to State Highway 6 through Telfair.

UNIVERSITY BOULEVARD EXTENSION – A host of representatives from Sugar Land City Council, Newland Communities and city staff celebrated the completion of a $25 million extension of University Boulevard with a ribbon cutting ceremony. The project was fully funded by Newland.
Design and construction of the roadway – which includes bridges, utilities and landscaping – was funded completely by the developer.
The new north-south corridor includes four lanes with sufficient space to add two more. When built, the additional lanes will be funded by the city.
A city project is already underway to extend University Boulevard from Highway 6 to U.S. Highway 90A. Construction of the segment could begin as early as next year.
The completion of University Boulevard through the Telfair development is an important part of a series of projects to create a regional corridor through Sugar Land and Fort Bend County, city officials stressed.
Once all sections are completed, University Boulevard will be a regionally significant roadway, extending from U.S. 90A north of Wal-Mart to Highway 6 at Murphy Road in Missouri City.
