High winds Monday morning may be followed by near-record cold temperatures Monday night, with the possibility of frost or even a brief freeze in northern Fort Bend County.
Dry air from a Canadian cold front is moving into the county today, according to the National Weather Service – so dry that, along with winds gusting to 25 miles per hour, the weather service has issued a “Red Flag Warning” that dangerous fire conditions exist.
By mid-afternoon the winds are expected to calm and the skies are expected to clear, the weather service says. That “should set the stage for a cold night, with temperatures bottoming out at 32 across Crockett and Groveton, trending upward to 34/35 at Conroe, and 35-38 in Houston.
Forecasters called for a low of 35 in much of Fort Bend County, “cooler to the west and southwest where drier air will reside. Expecting Frost across much of the region.”
The record low on April 6 at Houston was 37 degrees in 1970; on April 7 it was 32 in 1971.
Residents should be ready to protect pets and tender plants Monday night.
