Rep. Ron Paul (R-Lake Jackson) has announced he will be co-hosting a Military Academy Day on May 9 at Cinco Ranch High School.
High school freshman, sophomores and juniors interested in a possible appointment to one of the nation’s military academies are encouraged to attend.
The event will give the students a chance to meet with representatives from four of the five U.S. military academies, learn more about the appointment process and the opportunities each academy has to offer.
Paul is partnering with Sens. Kay Bailey Hutchinson and John Cornyn, as well as Congressmen Michael McCaul, John Culberson, Lloyd Doggett and Pete Olson, to host the academy day.
Military recruiters will also be on hand to speak with students who are considering enlisting in one of the military branches upon graduating from high school.
“It will be a one-stop shop for all area students interested in any facet of our armed services,” said Jackie Gloor, district case director for Paul and coordinator for the Military Academy Day. “The process is very competitive. Each congressional office can only nominate 10 students within our respective districts for each academy, and every congressional office has a different nominating process.”
Paul called it a privilege to help student gain an appointment to a military academy.
“Last year, 30 students from District 14 were nominated to military academies,” Paul said. “It is a privilege to get to know the students and assist in any way possible.”
Military Academy Day will be held from 2-4 p.m. on Saturday, May 9 in the commons area of Cinco Ranch High School.
