Whittington Named Foster High Valedictorian, Martin Will Be Salutatorian

Garrett Whittington will be the Valedictorian for the Foster High School Class of 2009, while Michael Martin will be the salutatorian.

 

Whittington, who graduates with a 111.6037 grade point average, is the son of Bill and Audrey Whittington of Richmond.

While at Foster, Whittington was an AP Scholar with Distinction and participated in football and track and field.

 

He was the 2009 Monochromatic Reserve Class Champion, the Monochromatic Class Champion in 2008 and made the auction in 2007 at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Student Art show. He received a 2009 Gold Medal, was Best of Show in 2008, and earned Special Merit in 2007 at the Lamar CISD Art Show. He also made the Fort Bend County Fair Art Auction in 2007 and 2008.

 

Whittington took part in the National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine in the summer of 2008 and the National Youth Leadership Forum on National Security in the fall of 2007.

 

Whittington’s scholarships include the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Metropolitan Scholarship and a scholarship through the Society of Petroleum Engineers.

 

He will attend Texas A&M University and major in chemical engineering.

 

Martin is the son of Jon and Wendy Martin of Richmond and graduates with a 111.5019 grade point average.

While at Foster, Martin was active in UIL Ready Writing, Math and Computer Science. He had the highest GPA in English III Honors, Computer Science A and Computer Science AB. He also participated in Band and the Interact Club.

 

He made the State UIL Solo and Ensemble in 2007 and 2008 and State UIL in 2009 in Ready Writing.

 

Martin has earned the Charles D. Tovar Scholarship and the Rotary International Scholarship.

 

He will attend Rice University majoring in Biology, and plans to become a neurologist.
