A Missouri City man was shot in the stomach early Tuesday after an argument over erratic driving escalated into a gun battle.
Neither the victim nor his assailant were identified by the Missouri City Police Department, which has forwarded the case to the Fort Bend County District attorney.
The shooting stemmed from a trip to Galveston beach by a Missouri City couple, their child, and the suspect in the shooting, whom police also identified as a “friend.”
Apparently the friend, who was driving, got intoxicated at the beach, and was driving erratically on the way back to Missouri City from Galveston, a police spokesman said. Back at the family’s Missouri City driveway, while all four people still were in the car, the two men got into an argument over driving ability, or the lack thereof.
“The argument culminated into a fist-fight,” said Missouri City Police Capt. John Bailey. After the fight, the driver of the car stated “I’ve got something for you,” and then drove off, leaving the couple and their child in their Creekway Circle driveway just after midnight.
The shooting victim told police he believed his former friend was going to return with a gun, so he went inside his home, got his own gun and went back out in the driveway to wait, Bailey said.
The man who’d driven to Galveston and back then returned, fired on his former friend and shot him in the stomach, Bailey said. The wounded man returned fire, and at least 10 shots were exchanged.
Police were unable to locate the suspect at his Missouri City home, but know his identity.
The shooting victim was transported by ambulance to Southwest Memorial Hospital, where, Bailey said, he is listed in stable condition.

Sounds like a couple of idiots. Too bad they both didn’t have better aim.
