Sugar Land Police Invite Public To Fund-raiser For Officer With Cancer

Sugar Land police officers are inviting the public to a community fund-raiser for fellow officer Marcus Zaruba, who is on leave after being diagnosed with a rare cancer in an advanced stage.

The event is being held Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Sugar Land Police Department Headquarters, at 1200 State Highway 6.

Donations will be accepted for car washes, a “dunk a cop” booth, popcorn, cotton candy and “Yummies” ice cream. Proceeds from the benefit will be used to assist Zaruba and his wife, Jessica, with overwhelming and rapidly mounting medical expenses.

A Marcus Zaruba Benefit Fund has been set up at Prosperity Bank. Donations can be made out to the Sugar Land Police Officers Association in care of the Marcus Zaruba Benefit Fund.

For more information, please contact Peggy Heinemeyer at 281-275-2326, or Sgt. Sandy Fontenot, at 281-275-2528.
