After only six months in business, Cinco Ranch’s The Angel and The Ox Pub has closed its doors, apparently for good.
The eatery and bar, which owners touted as an “authentic” Irish pub, opened last December in the upscale Villagio commercial center at Westheimer Parkway and Peek Road. It closed last week.
In March, the pub sparked a minor controversy in Cinco Ranch when neighbors complained that noise from the establishment, especially amplified music, was creating a disturbance. One resident wrote to Morgan Stagg, chair of the Cinco Ranch Safety Committee, asking for help.
Julie, who asked that her last name not be used, said she wanted Cinco-area businesses to be successful, but the noise disturbance needed to be addressed.
“I, as much as anyone, hope Villagio and its tenants are successful, but something has to be done about the noise level,” she said.
Another area resident, Steve Lehmann, said it was up to the pub to either tone down the noise or face potential legal action from South Lake Village residents.
“Those people were here long before that bar, and long before Villagio was ever developed. They’ve enjoyed peace and quiet in their homes for all these years, and now this place comes along and creates a problem,” Lehmann said. “They need to learn about being good neighbors before they end up on the wrong end of a lawsuit.”
After being contacted about the noise complaints by Cinco Ranch Community Manager Michael Meagher, the ownership of the pub agreed to take steps to reduce noise, including switching from amplified to acoustic music.
After the change was made, no further complaints were received.
Jackie Kent said he was sad to see The Angel and The Ox close, and will miss dropping by for a drink after work.
“It was an OK place to grab a beer, chat with your mates and watch football. I guess I’ll just have to find somewhere else,” Kent said.
He also said the pub never seemed to know what kind of customers it wanted to attract.
“Sometimes there were a lot of guys watching football; sometimes there were families with kids. That was a bit of a problem at times,” Kent said. “The guys (watching football on television) want to yell for their team and make a lot of noise, but the families with small kids seemed to be a little put off by that.”
Attempts to contact the management or ownership of The Angel and The Ox for a comment were unsuccessful.

Who takes their kids into a pub??
