Gov. Perry Extends Fort Bend County’s Aerial Fireworks Ban Throughout July 4 Holiday

Texas Gov. Rick Perry has extended Fort Bend County’s disaster declaration signed Tuesday, banning the sale and use of aerial fireworks through July 6 at 7 a.m.

The ban specifically includes “skyrockets with sticks,” which would include the popular bottle rockets, and “missiles with fins,” according to information provided by the Fort Bend County Office of Emergency Management.

The disaster declaration was made late Tuesday afternoon by County Judge Bob Hebert, who indicated he was concerned that a burn ban imposed earlier during a county Commissioners Court meeting only would prevent the discharge of fireworks, but not their sale.

Hebert signed the declaration because Fort Bend County is facing a drought, and has experienced several weeks of extremely hot weather without rain, creating conditions conducive to wildfires.

A disaster declaration such as the one Hebert signed can only remain in effect for 60 hours. Hebert appealed to Gov. Perry, who has the power to extend such a ban, in order to prevent sale and discharge of aerial fireworks this July 4 holiday season.

“My primary concern is the safety and welfare of our citizens, and I do not believe that the outdoor burn ban adopted by Commissioner’s Court earlier this week is sufficient to protect life and property as we enter the July 4th season under the current drought conditions and heat advisory,” Hebert said Friday “I am glad that Gov. Perry supports this initiative and I appreciate the fast response we received from him extending the declaration.”

“My primary concern is the safety and welfare of our citizens…” You mean in a coming election year for you Bobby you are really concerned about us??? Why not a few years ago when you gave yourself a 15% increase in your annual salary at our expense or when you pushed the TTC project on Texas 99 for your buddy Perry?

So tax, borrow and spend Bobby had to call his entrenched friend of the special interest to order his peons (us) to comply? That’s telling them. Maybe he can find away to increase fines for those who don’t comply and fill the county coffers some more. Maybe he can get the appraisal board involved and use the fines to build their new taxing building, after all it helps keep their budgets fat and happy!

To defeat drought seasons? Prohibit waste or wasting waters to help keep lawns green.
New or old septic sewer systems sprinkles waters all lawn to save waters for all.
