Fort Bend Seniors’ Meals on Wheels program officials have issued a plea to the public for new or “gently used” oscillating or box fans – or for donations so the organization can buy fans.
Those fans would go to about 150 senior citizens in need, the organization says. The need is especially great considering the drought and heat wave that has gripped the region, with daily highs of more than 98 degrees most of this month.
“Many of our seniors either don’t have air conditioning or are too afraid to turn on the air because of high utility bills,” said Manuela Arroyos, chief executive officer of FBS. “We are asking the public to help us keep our seniors safe and cool this summer.”
To donate a fan or to help offset the cost of new fans, please contact Kristin Weiss, Director of Development at FBS, at 281-633-7057 or email her here.
