A grassroots group calling itself the “Katy Tea Party Patriots” is planning a Fourth of July tea party and celebration in Waller County.
Residents from across southeast Texas, including Fort Bend County, are being invited to take part in the free event, which will include a fireworks display, patriotic speeches, live entertainment, food and family games.
Entertainment will include country musician Kevin Black and KTRH radio’s Lores Rizkalla.
Hours for the event will be 5 – 10 p.m. The festival site will be at 7801 FM 359, between Pattison and Monaville in central Waller County.
Those attending are encouraged to bring their own coolers, food, drinks and chairs. No alcohol will be allowed.
Organizers said the Katy Tea Party Patriots is dedicated to smaller government, lower taxes and a reduction in government spending. The group is an outgrowth of the tax protest “tea parties” held across the nation earlier this year.
“We are a nonprofit grassroots effort brought together to bring attention to government policy that does not support constitutional rights, enlarges government growth over a free market system and increases spending and taxation beyond what we view is viable by the public,” the organization’s website says. “We will rally our members and the general public to peacefully voice opposition to such governmental policies and educate our youth on the constitution and government.”
