Not to be rude, as it is hard to make it to level of a surgery residency, but is this really news?

Somebody completed the course work and is now taking the next step in their career. I guess Fort Bend County is proud of anybody that makes it past getting a GED.

The fact that K. Stroup had to prefece the comment by stating, “not to be rude” indicates that may infact have been the intension. Nonetheless, Dr. Derrick should be acknowledged for her accomplishments. In a system that is failing thousands of students becasue of educational inequalities, Kadria is a definite success story. And this demonstrates the importance of education and what it can do for anyone who has ambition, and is self-motivated!

    K. Stroup obviously has not had any significant accomplishments worth sharing, so feels it is necessary to diminish that of Kadria Derrick. This is definitely newsworthy information. Kadria graduated in 2001 and within 8.5 years is demonstrating the attributes necessary to be an accomplished, successful and productive individual. Within a quarter of a century, she has done more than many people have done in twice their time on this earth.

Ft. Bend and other school districts alike should publicize the positive aspects of personal motivation, commitment and dedication students put forth to reach their goals. WE as a socieity should be tired of hearing of the failures within the educational system.

Furthermore, DR. DERRRICK is in yet another male dominanted field and is holding her own by demonstrating her intellect. Lets hope should any of your children, grandchildren or other relatives accomplish something of any level of importance, you will understand how proud of her not only Ft. Bend School District should be, but also any young adult that sets their eyes on the prize.

Matriculating to college is not only a financial commitment, it is also a physical and emotional one as well. Where grants and scholarships do not kick-in, parents, friends and students must be resourceful and do what ever is necessary to make sure their dreams can still be fulfilled.

In closing, to all of those students who aspire to be whatever it is you wish to do in life, remember, what the mind conceives, the heart believes, the hands can achieve. Finally, everyone takes credit for ones success, but ultimately, only you will take the criticism for failure. So reach for the stars, and you will get there.
