Faced with a growing inventory of evidence and seized assets, the Fulshear Police Department will begin using a leased storage facility to house the material.
The Fulshear City Council voted unanimously to authorize the mayor to sign the lease agreement.
Police Chief Scott Head said as his department’s activity increases, so does the amount of material being taken into evidence. Space in the current storage area at city hall is extremely limited, the chief explained.
“We’re running into investigations where we’re starting to make some seizures,” Head told the council. “We recently seized $2,000 worth of Hardie plank from a construction site theft case.”
He also said a large amount of construction material the department recently seized had to be stored in a parking area behind city hall, cordoned off only by yellow “police line” tape.
Head said the storage facility being leased was large enough to meet the department’s needs, including being able to hold seized vehicles. The Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office has a similar agreement with the storage facility, he said.
Fulshear re-established its police department less than two years ago after going without a municipal force for eight years.
City council approved leasing the storage space in a unanimous vote.
