Detectives Believe Woman Killed Toddler, Then Turned Gun On Herself

Updated: A Fort Bend County woman apparently shot and killed her young daughter and then turned the gun on herself in a murder-suicide.

Kiljuana Clark, 25, and 18-month-old Halley Clark were found dead by the woman’s husband in the upstairs bathroom of the couple’s home, according to a statement the man gave to detectives, a Fort Bend County Sheriff’s spokeswoman said.

According to a law enforcement sources, the toddler was found sitting in her mother’s lap in the bathtub at the home, in the 2400 block of Padgett Court near Eldridge and Florence roads north of Sugar Land.. Each had been shot once with a .45-caliber pistol. The gun investigators believe was the murder weapon also was found in the tub.

Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Terriann Carlson said the woman’s husband made a 911 call to Sugar Land police at about 2:30 p.m. Friday, and the call was transferred to the sheriff’s office. Deputies arrived on the scene, and later the husband spoke with detectives at the sheriff’s office in Richmond.

He said was outside mowing the lawn during the shooting, and thus didn’t hear the noise, Carlson said. He came inside, found the bodies and called police.

The husband also said his wife had been suffering from bipolar disorder or a similar mental condition, Carlson said. However, she had been taking medication for it, which seemed to have been controlling it.

The victims’ bodies were transported to the Galveston County Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsies.

The couple had recently moved to their home from the Dallas area.
