Meeting With Jenney, Reynolds Set To Discuss Marshall Academy, Other Education Issues

An Aug. 6 public meeting with Fort Bend Independent School District Superintendent Dr. Timothy Jenney will be held at Missouri City’s Abiding Faith Baptist Church to discuss the Marshall High School Electronic Engineering Academy and other education issues.

The open meeting has been scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at the church, at 15376 Fondren Road in Missouri City.

Errol Jones, chief executive officer of The Errol Group LLC of Houston, said Abiding Faith Pastor Bobby Morgan will help moderate the discussion.

In addition to Jenney, Marshall Principal Alonzo Reynolds III and leaders of the Fort Bend Pastor’s Association are expected to attend the meeting.

The meeting comes about three weeks after hundreds of people marched to the Missouri City high school in a show of support for keeping the engineering academy at Marshall. That demonstration came as a result of previously expressed district plans to move the academy to Elkins High.

Since the march, Jenney has indicated he has reconsidered. In a recent statement, he said, “it would be acceptable to keep the Electronic Engineering Academy at Marshall High School and I committed to ongoing district support. I stand by my commitment.”

FBISD high school academy programs are open to students from all district high schools. At the Electronic Engineering Academy, administrators have said they believe not enough students are enrolled, especially among students from other schools.

Earlier this year, the FBISD administration indicated academy supporters would have to register at least 75 incoming freshmen in the academy for it to remain viable at Marshall.

The district administration has not clarified any new requirements, but presumably still has attendance goals for the Electronics Engineering Academy.

Meanwhile, pastors and business and community leaders in Missouri City and the surrounding area remain adament that the academy should remain where it is permanently.

Said Jone, “I sit on the advisory committee for the TMHS Engineering Academy and have not heard a reasonable argument or strategy provided by the school administration for the removal of the academy from the Marshall campus to the Elkins campus.”

I agree Joe. Watch out for forked tongues.

Who mandated 75 incoming freshmen? Beware the framers of the limitations!

Viewpoint, are you saying absent as in not present and seat vacant? My, my, I do declare. Uhmmm–Uhmmm.

Seemingly a new BOT member would want to be present to get acquainted with his/her now role and commitment to duty of the job weighing so heavily with responsibility and important, crucial decision making thereof.

Will Mrs. Glover of FBISD BOT continue tobe absent for this meeting, as in previous ones? Her presents are improtant for leadership or to stepdown?
