Dr. Rand Paul, a Bowling Green, Ky., eye surgeon and the son of U.S. Rep. Ron Paul, is running for the U.S. Senate and will be in Richmond Aug. 22 for a fund-raiser.
Rand Paul announced Wednesday he’ll be a Republican candidate for retiring Kentucky Sen. Jim Bunning’s seat, according to Sugar Land political consultant Mark Elam, who will host the Richmond fund-raiser.
Elam also serves as Congressman Ron Paul’s campaign manager. Ron Paul, who ran for president in the most recent national elections, represents the portion of Fort Bend County located in Congressional District 14.
Elam said the fund-raiser reception for Rand Paul will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Elam’s river cabin home at 2020 Baudet Dr. in Richmond.
“Rand Paul is a career doctor, not a politician. His entrance into politics is indicative of his life’s work: a desire to diagnose problems, and provide practical solutions,” Elam said. “Rand Paul represents the next generation of conservative leadership in our nation.”
Elam said he is encouraging interested Fort Bend residents to “come and meet both Drs. Paul and hear their vision for restoring America to its founding principles of limited government and individual liberty.”
Individual tickets cost a $25 donation per person. For more information or to RSVP, email RandPaulTX@gmail.com.
Rand Paul served as spokesman for his father’s presidential campaign, and traveled on a speaking tour through ten states.
He has owned his own business and performed eye surgeries in Bowling Green for 18 years, and also founded the Southern Kentucky Lions Eye Clinic, which performs eye exams and surgery for patients of modest financial means.
Others reportedly interested in seeking Bunning’s Senate seat include Kentucky Secretary of State Trey Grayson, and business Bill Johnson. Both are Republicans, as is Bunning.
