Following an early Wednesday traffic stop, Missouri City police arrested a Houston man after finding nearly six ounces of marijuana hidden in the man’s underwear.
Isaiah Jones Jr., 28, had been driving east on U.S. 90A at about 12:55 a.m. Wednesday when a police officer noticed his vehicle had an expired registration sticker.
The officer stopped Jones’ vehicle, approached and began talking to Jones when he smelled an odor of burning marijuana, a Missouri City Police Department spokesman said.
“The officer asked the driver if there was anything in the vehicle he should know about, or if he had anything to declare,” said Police Capt. John Bailey. “The driver seemed nervous. Then he said he had an ounce of marijuana in his underwear.”
The officer looked in the area Jones had indicated, and found a plastic bag containing a “green, leafy substance” that looked and smelled like marijuana, Bailey said. A field test done on site confirmed it was.
A woman in the passenger seat of Jones’ vehicle disavowed any knowledge of the marijuana, a police report stated.
The contents of the bag totaled 5.8 ounces, Bailey said.
Jones was arrested and charged with Class A misdemeanor possession of marijuana, and transported to Fort Bend County Jail in Richmond.
