During its recent meeting, the Rosenberg City Council gave its approval to a new gateway beautification project following a presentation by Economic Development Director Matt Fielder.
The project is designed to improve and beautify several major entrances to the city.
Fielder said the Rosenberg Development Corporation was planning gateway enhancements at the intersections of U.S. Hwy. 59 and FM2218, as well as U.S. 59 and State Hwy. 6.
Landscaping consisting of oleanders and double knockout roses, both low-maintenance plants, would be integrated into the gateway signage to ensure the landscaping remains viable for a long period of time.
Fielder said the purpose of the project was to improve the Rosenberg’s image and aesthetics in order to encourage businesses and potential customers to come to the city.
City council unanimously approved the project and authorized Mayor Joe Gruecky to execute an interlocal agreement between the city and the Rosenberg Development Corporation for the installation and maintenance of landscaping at the two gateway intersections.
Fielder also said since the project is within the Hwy. 59 right-of-way, the Texas Department of Transportation requires approval of an advance funding agreement with the city before authorizing the installation of the landscaping.
The council also authorized City Manager Jack Hamlett to execute the agreement with the state, giving the city and development corporation permission to install the landscaping.
