Rosenberg Parks and Recreation Director Darren McCarthy has met all National Recreation and Park Association requirements to be designated as a Certified Park and Recreation Professional through 2012.
McCarthy becomes one of only 12 recreation professionals in the region to hold the certification.
The NPRA, a nonprofit organization established in 1965 and headquartered in Virginia, is the leading national organization dedicated to the advancement of public parks and recreation opportunities by conducting research, education and policy initiatives.
McCarthy was also nominated by the Texas Recreation and Parks Society as certification chair for the TRAPS Region Four, which covers the greater Gulf Coast and Houston areas.

McCarthy came to the City of Rosenberg in October 2007 from Pelham, New Hampshire where he held the position Parks and Recreation Director and managed six parks in a growing parks system similar to Rosenberg.
He has ten years of recreation management and programming experience as well. McCarthy’s other professional designations include Certified Commercial Recreation Professional, Certified Pool Operator, Certified AED/CPR/First Aid Instructor and Certified Playground Safety Inspector.
