Sugar Land ‘Tea Party’ Members To Attend Austin Rally

Members of the Fort Bend County Tea Party, Sugar Land chapter are planning to attend a rally in the south steps of the Capital building in Austin Sept. 5. According to organizers, bus caravans from areas such as Wichita Falls, Del Rio and McAllen will bring members of the Tea Party Movement to what is being titled a “Stand Up For Texas” rally. Organizers expect the turnout to exceed 15,000 people.

“We are standing our ground for the People of the Nation,” said Sugar Land Chapter President James Ives.  ”Because it is the will of the voters that should guide the government , not party politics , not special interests and certainly not blind obedience to an increasingly autocratic system. We are citizens, not subjects.”

Joe, what’s controversial about it is that we don’t want politicians to be indoctrinating our kids. The message is not to study hard, to be good students and eat your vegetables so you can grow up and be well educated. He’s going to be giving a highly political speech. That’s fine for the airwaves, but I say let’s not let the politicans into the classrooms to politicize our school system.

    Dear Parents,

On Tuesday, September 8, 2009, President Obama will deliver a national address directly to students on the importance of education. The President will challenge students to work hard, set educational goals, and take responsibility for their learning. The address will air at 12:00 eastern time and will be broadcast live. Here at XXX XXXX Elementary, we will record the address and integrate it during our social studies time at 2:00 p.m. XXX XXX Elementary and Fort Bend ISD are not requiring students to view the address nor will we take any grades during the address. We understand that some parents may not want their child/children to view the address so we are asking that you fill out the form below granting your permission for your child to view the address. If you choose for your child not to view the address, they will be secured in a supervised location for the address and will return to class once it is complete. We are asking that this form be returned on Friday, September 4th so that teachers may plan accordingly in their classrooms. As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please call the school.

    Sincerely,

What is FBISD teaching us and our kids with the attachment above?!
I was livid to see this come down (presumably) from the district. Why is our president’s address on education being presented to our young people as “controversial”? Indeed, the kids who forget to get their permission slips signed, will not be able to watch the speech (that will later used in the social studies classroom). As you know a large majority of students forget to have these papers signed anyway. For this reason, the appropriate means of presenting a controversial (which this is not), but needed presentation would be to have those who do not want their kids to see the speech, sign a statement saying so. But this does not seem to be the intent of our rather political administration and the education that they are less than subtly trying to disseminate.

This twisted way of presenting the value of our president’s speech sends a political message that says Obama’s presidency is itself a matter of opinion. It is a way of polarizing our children at the youngest of ages and it sends a terrible message, especially to young people of color, that even a black president can be dissmissed and marginalized. It also tells parents, who do not want their children to listen and learn, that it is OK to choose ignorance, even in an academic setting.

This letter sends many layers of messages, and almost all of them are intellectually vile and socially destructive.

Trust busting has it’s serious limitations, especially and most importantly due to the 1970s bills that gave corporations person-hood rights. These rights allowed corporations free speech via giving barrels of money to elected officials so that the “rights” (desires) of the person-hood corporation would be assured.

For these reasons, we cannot realistically expect that trust busting will be possible, therefore it is in the best interest of those with insurance as well as those without insurance to support universal healthcare. http://www.pnhp.org/

I agree, we need to term limit all these congressional types out and do away with seniority and then kick the lobbyist out of D.C. and our local boards, councils and commissions.

As far as single payer goes, we really don’t need to replace the current monopoly with a government run one. What we need is a Justice Dept. that has the guts to pursue these large corporate cartels running our country and hit them with anti-trust. Create more competition, not less and the average jane and joes will benefit.

Too bad these are only dreams and we will continue to watch the show from a distance while the special interest drain away our personal savings through taxation to their cronies.

    Term Limits
    Flat Tax
No single payer government health care plan
We need someone else to run the country
    Don’t mess with TEXAS!
